Hot Caustic Bluing
Hot caustic bluing is a metal-treatment process used for bluing firearms. In this method, clean metal parts are immersed in a solution of sodium hydroxide salts heated to about 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The heated solution reacts with the surface of the steel, forming a protective black oxide layer through controlled oxidation.
